Pinaka Technology Solutions brings this opportunity to you via a prime contractor to Defence.

We are seeking an advanced Communications and Data Network Integration Engineer to support the development and integration of complex, networked command-and-control capabilities within a joint Defence environment.

The successful candidate will provide specialist systems engineering and technical advice across communications networks, tactical data links, systems integration and interoperability. The position requires substantial experience working with complex Defence capabilities and the ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct communications network, data network, bearer and systems-integration analysis.
  • Develop requirements for command-and-control networks, bearers and integration.
  • Support the integration of sensors and weapon systems across air, land and maritime domains.
  • Provide engineering support for Tactical Data Links and Defence networks.
  • Develop and maintain system architectures, interface definitions, configuration baselines and technical specifications.
  • Undertake technical assessments, design reviews, trade studies and capability-gap analyses.
  • Support interoperability and certification assessments for joint and coalition environments.
  • Develop concepts of employment, interface-control documentation, message-handling rules and integration requirements.
  • Provide advice on secure networks, encryption-key distribution, cyber policy and security architecture.
  • Review technical and contractual deliverables.
  • Support vulnerability assessments, security accreditation and compliance with applicable Defence standards.
  • Facilitate workshops and participate in working groups, technical forums and configuration-control boards.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefs and decision-support material for senior military and civilian stakeholders.
  • Liaise with project teams, original equipment manufacturers, systems integrators and other technical stakeholders.
  • Support commissioning, acceptance, operational handover and sustainment activities.

Essential experience

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Integrated Air and Missile Defence, systems engineering or systems-integration activities within the Australian Defence Force or a comparable Defence environment.
  • Experience contributing to complex, networked Defence capabilities within a joint system-of-systems environment.
  • Strong understanding of Defence capability development, including capability definition, requirements development, options analysis and technical assessments.
  • Demonstrated application of systems-engineering principles to complex Defence projects.
  • Experience in architecture development, interface definition, interoperability analysis and systems integration.
  • Knowledge of command-and-control systems, combat-management systems, Tactical Data Links and Defence networks.
  • Understanding of interoperability requirements relevant to joint and coalition operations.
  • Strong stakeholder-engagement skills and the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly.
  • Experience preparing high-quality technical reports, briefs and decision-support material.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic and security-sensitive project environment.

Mandatory requirements

  • Australian citizenship.
  • A current NV1 security clearance or higher.
  • Availability to work onsite in Canberra.
  • At least 12 months remaining on the candidate's security-clearance validity period at commencement.

Highly regarded

  • Current NV2 or TSPV security clearance.
  • Experience with integrated air and missile defence command-and-control capabilities.
  • Experience integrating sensors, weapon systems, tactical networks and data links across multiple operational domains.
  • Knowledge of Australian Defence security, capability-development and systems-engineering frameworks.
