New Cathay Chinese Restaurant is looking for a reliable and experienced Deep Fry Chef / Kitchen Cook to join our kitchen team.

The role of Fry Chef will mainly focus on preparing and cooking deep-fried dishes, entree items, and other hot food items during service. The role of Kitchen Cook, will focus on preping for the meals by chopping vegetables, meat, assisting all the chefs with retriving ingredients, and iteams during service.

You will work closely with the head chef and kitchen team to ensure food is prepared quickly, consistently, and to a high standard.

Experience in a Chinese restaurant or Asian kitchen is preferred, but we are also open to someone reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn with no experience.

We are open to applicants with experience, as well as someone who is interested in starting or continuing a commercial cookery apprenticeship. Training can be provided for the right person who is reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn.

Working hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00am–1:00pm (Prep time) and 4:30pm–10:00pm (Service hours)

Preperation time is negotable.

Trading hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 5:00pm to 10:00pm and Sunday 5:00pm to 9:00pm

Cantonese speaking is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and plate deep-fried dishes and entree items

  • Operate the deep fryer safely and efficiently during busy service

  • Prepare ingredients before service, including cutting, marinating, portioning, and battering

  • Maintain consistent food quality, taste, and presentation

  • Monitor fryer oil quality and follow proper oil-changing procedures

  • Keep the fry section clean, organised, and well-stocked

  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and kitchen cleaning procedures

  • Assist with general kitchen preparation and cleaning when required

  • Work as part of a team in a fast-paced restaurant environment

  • Follow instructions from the head chef and senior kitchen staff

Requirements

  • Previous kitchen or deep-fry experience preferred (not required)

  • Experience in a Chinese restaurant or Asian kitchen is an advantage (not required)

  • Able to work quickly and calmly during busy periods

  • Good attention to detail and food presentation

  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking

  • Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene

  • Able to work well with other kitchen staff

  • Visa sponsorship available for the right candidate without current Australian work rights
