Northland Tax is a specialist tax practice based in Mossman (with a Mareeba presence). The Principal is dual-qualified. The firm serves a diverse client base of high-net-worth individuals and groups with multiple entities, as well as public company work. Clients are located locally in Far North Queensland plus Sydney, Cairns and the Gold Coast. Some travel is required. The firm uses a dedicated tax AI platform to support technical research and advice delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and finalise complex tax returns and associated schedules for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs (including CGT, Division 7A, FBT and other specialised calculations).

  • Manage full tax compliance and advisory engagements for high-net-worth family groups involving multiple entities and structures.

  • Handle or support work involving public company clients and more complex corporate arrangements.

  • Deliver proactive tax planning and structuring advice focused on asset protection and tax-effective outcomes, utilising the firm’s dedicated tax AI tools to enhance research, accuracy and efficiency.

  • Prepare financial statements, BAS/IAS and other compliance lodgements to strict deadlines.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across local, Sydney, Cairns and Gold Coast portfolios.

  • Undertake occasional interstate and regional travel for client meetings, reviews and relationship management.

  • Liaise with the ATO and other stakeholders; resolve queries promptly and professionally.

  • Maintain accurate working papers and client files; contribute to continuous improvement of processes.

  • Support and mentor junior team members as required.

Expectations / About You

  • Demonstrated experience working with high-net-worth groups that have multiple entities, and exposure to public company or complex corporate tax work.

  • Confidence managing a mixed portfolio of local and interstate clients (Sydney, Cairns, Gold Coast) and willingness to travel as needed.

  • Strong technical tax knowledge combined with the ability to leverage modern AI-assisted research tools for higher-quality, more efficient advice.

  • Excellent client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.

  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the capacity to prioritise under deadline pressure.

  • Proficiency with common Australian accounting and tax software (Xero/MYOB preferred) plus readiness to work with the firm’s dedicated tax AI platform.

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting/commerce; CA, CPA or equivalent preferred (or progressing toward qualification). Registered Tax Agent status highly regarded.
