Department: Finance

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Salary Range: $1,483 - $1,692 per 35 hour week + superannuation

We’re seeking a highly motivated and experienced finance professional to lead the day-to-day operations of our Finance team, based in Coolah. This is a key role within Council’s Corporate Services team, coordinating finance activities in consultation with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and supporting strategic financial management. If you have a strong background in accounting, excellent attention to detail, and enjoy working collaboratively in a dynamic local government environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As Supervisor Finance, you'll be responsible for overseeing daily financial operations and internal control processes, ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements. Your role will involve coordinating a range of accounting functions including bank and rates reconciliations, managing debt recovery strategies, processing general ledger and job cost adjustments, preparing investment reports, and assisting with the development of cash flow forecasts. You'll also provide support across other finance roles and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support Council’s strategic objectives.

In addition to your technical capabilities, you'll bring leadership and team coordination skills to support and guide staff in delivering high-quality, timely financial services. You'll act as a key point of contact between the Coolah Finance team and senior leadership, and your strong communication and problem-solving skills will help ensure smooth workflows and positive client outcomes.

This role requires high-level accuracy, discretion, and the ability to manage competing priorities—especially during reporting periods and audit processes. To succeed in this role, you’ll need at least five years’ experience in an accounting environment, a minimum of Certificate IV in Accounting or similar, and strong proficiency in financial software and spreadsheet tools. Previous experience in local government or familiarity with related tax and accounting legislation is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Class C NSW Drivers Licence

It's a plus if you have knowledge of related tax legislation, Local Government Act and Regulations, Australian Accounting Standards and the Local Government (State) Award. It will be great if you have experience in motivation and team participation, communication and negotiation, and in maintenance of general ledger/preparing journals and financial reconciliations, particularly if that experience is in Local Government.
