The role and you

Are you an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic looking for your next challenge? Join MidCoast Council's Public Spaces department and play a key role in keeping our extensive fleet and plant operating smoothly.

MidCoast Council manages over 3,000 hectares of parks and open spaces, 26 sporting complexes, 84 playgrounds, 32 cemeteries, and 560 Council buildings—all of which rely on our skilled Trades team to ensure our fleet and plant are in top condition.

As a Senior Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you'll be part of a professional team responsible for the maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and inspections of our diverse fleet, including light and heavy vehicles, plant equipment, and RFS machinery. This role also involves minor welding, hydraulic repairs, and roadworthy inspections.

You’ll be supporting the Team Leader Mechanical Services - South, with opportunities for ongoing training and career development in a role that directly contributes to the local community.

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you’ll be required to complete a pre-employment medical check to ensure you can complete the essential requirements of the role. 

What you'll bring

  • Trade Qualifications in heavy vehicle/plant mechanics 
  • Motor Vehicle Inspectors Certificate 
  • Class MR Drivers License (minimum) 
  • Extensive experience in vehicle and large plant maintenance (including RFS plant and equipment)
  • Previous experience in purchasing and procurement
  • Previous experience in staff supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work schedules

The package: Commencing salary package circa $69,108 - $82,940 p.a. plus superannuation

Tenure: Permanent Full-Time: 38 hours a week 

Location: The successful applicant will be required to work at MidCoast Councils Tuncurry Workshop located on Greygum Road, Tuncurry. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites.
