The Aboriginal Liaison Officer offers an exciting and unique
opportunity to engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Dubbo and
Wellington, promoting cultural awareness and fostering strong relationships
with key stakeholders. You will provide cultural advice,
ensure the effective delivery of programs, and support the development of
initiatives that reflect and respond to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. With a
focus on community consultation, and capacity building, this
position offers a platform to drive positive change and advance reconciliation.

This role has been highlighted as one that should be filled by a person who identifies as Aboriginal. The work undertaken by this person requires high-level cultural knowledge and will work directly with the community to develop and present exhibitions and community events. There is very high community and sector expectation that the programming should be led by someone who identifies as Aboriginal.
Dubbo Regional Council considers that being Aboriginal is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
An original copy of the confirmation of Aboriginal identity must be cited at the interview.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Developing effective and constructive working relationships linking Community, Council and customers
- Assisting Council to develop, implement and evaluate strategies and initiatives to build capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and enhance reconciliation throughout the Dubbo Region
- Having up-to-date knowledge of local and broader issues relevant to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and working collaboratively with Aboriginal people, agencies, government and the community to address these issues
What you'll bring
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- Familiarity and experience with the culture, traditions, and history of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Capacity to work with communities, and build relationships across agencies to facilitate the provision of services to communities
- Proven skills in translating community needs to organisations and converting those ideas into strategies and programs
- Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and service providers
- Experience in research skills and report writing skills
- High quality interpersonal, consultation and communication skills
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word
We would also love you to have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in social / community development, social research or a similar field/s

This position offers an attractive annual salary ranging from $78,184 to $90,862.
