We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Director to lead our dynamic staff in the Planning and Community Development Department. As the Director, you will steer a broad portfolio that includes strategic planning, economic development, community resilience, waste management, environmental health, and more, while working closely with the General Manager, Mayor, Councillors, and senior management. This is a pivotal leadership role where your ability to inspire, manage resources, and deliver results will be critical to shaping the region’s future.

Position Overview

 

In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee a wide-ranging remit across:

 

  • Strategic and Statutory Land Use Planning
  • Economic Development and Tourism Strategies
  • Community and Cultural Development
  • Environmental Management and Waste Services
  • Local Government Regulatory Functions

 

 

As Director, your primary responsibilities will include:

 

  • Advising the General Manager, Mayor, and Councillors on key strategic matters
  • Managing key relationships with community members, businesses, and government agencies.
  • Leading and developing a high-performing team while fostering innovation and change.
  • Overseeing the delivery of quality services in planning, waste management, environmental health, building regulation, and more.
  • Championing the Council’s vision, values, and ethical standards across all operations.

 

 

To succeed in this role, you will need a highly advanced level of leadership, business acumen, and the ability to engage and influence across diverse sectors. We are looking for someone with:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Business, Planning, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in senior leadership roles within local government or a similar setting.
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic outcomes through effective resource management, financial oversight, and people leadership.
  • Strong skills in communication and collaboration, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build effective partnerships.
  • A solutions-oriented approach to solving complex challenges, driving results, and achieving organisational objectives.

 

Selection Criteria
