About the Opportunity

Maitland City Council's Pathways program is a fantastic way to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in local government! Commencing in early 2025, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Cadet Strategic Planner to join our organisation.

In this role, you will build upon your studies by undertaking a cadet program in strategic planning services to Council and the wider community in respect to urban growth-related matters. You will have a training plan developed specifically for you, giving you the opportunity to obtain practical experience including review and assessment of land use strategies, support the preparation of local environment plan amendments, development controls and provide strategic advice on variety of development proposals.

This entry level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Council's urban growth and development functions.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • · Have strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver quality customer service.
  • · Hold a basic understanding of strategic and development planning principles including the LEP.
  • · Have experience or understanding in undertaking research, analysis and presentation of information.
  • · Be experienced in effectively prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and continuously improving.
  • · Have a current Class C driver's licence.

This role is only suitable for those who will finalise their degree qualification in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Science or a related discipline. Ideally, applicants are entering their fourth year of studies in 2025 with the ability to study part-time over two years or entering their third year of studies with the ability to appropriately manage full-time studies with full-time employment. You will be given one day per week paid study leave.

Benefits

This Cadet position is a temporary full time (two-year contract) role with a salary range of $53,196 up to $58,494 per year + 11.5% p.a. superannuation. Council will also pay for those subjects in your final years of study and give you access to staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements & fitness passport.
