About the role

In this key position, youā€™ll be at the forefront of maintaining high standards in environmental health and regulatory services. Reporting to the Environment Stream Leader, youā€™ll lead investigations, conduct audits, and perform detailed assessments to ensure compliance with legislation and Councilā€™s Local Laws.

About you

You bring demonstrated experience in a similar role, supported by tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health), Health Science, or equivalent qualifications and candidates currently pursuing these qualifications are also encouraged to apply.

Youā€™re a proactive and adaptable professional with strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

With a high degree of initiative, you excel at working autonomously, managing your own schedule, and adapting to changing priorities. Youā€™re equally comfortable collaborating within a multidisciplinary team when required.

Your thorough understanding of relevant legislation, combined with the ability to interpret and apply it in practice, ensures the effective delivery of Environmental Health services.

Ā Key responsibilities:

  • As an Environmental Health Officer, your diverse responsibilities will include:
  • Administering, investigating, and enforcing environmental, public health, and food safety standards within legislative and Council frameworks.
  • Conducting inspections and audits of licensed and registered premises to ensure compliance with Councilā€™s Local Laws and Policies.
  • Supporting the Compliance team with the implementation and enforcement of Local Laws and Policies as needed.
  • Assist with the management of Councilā€™s waste collection services, the management and supervision of Council operated landfills and landfill operators, including contract reviews and performance evaluations of landfill operators.
  • Liaising with contractors to ensure smooth delivery of services and adherence to standards.
  • Provide detailed assessments of development approvals relevant to environmental health requirements.
  • Contributing to health promotion initiatives to enhance community awareness and well-being.
  • Preparing reports on environmental health matters, drafting correspondence, and handling administrative tasks to ensure compliance with Council standards.
  • Supporting the preparation of the annual budget, including preliminary cash flow analysis and review processes.
