The Role:

Kempsey Shire Council is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee major projects within our Commercial Business Department. This is a unique opportunity to drive key critical infrastructure projects, including the Kempsey Airport upgrade and Council Depot refurbishment, that are essential to our community’s growth and operational efficiency. This role is a Full-time temporary position for a 3-year duration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of commercial business projects, leveraging your expertise to develop effective strategies and solutions.
  • Manage delivery of projects to ensure they meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements, and ensure works meet the required quality, health and safety, risk and environmental standards.
  • Develop and manage requirements, scope and write delivery plans and budget estimates, resource requirements, and cost control across a project life cycle.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including Council staff, community members, and relevant regulatory bodies, to ensure transparency and successful project outcomes.
  • Oversee project documentation, progress reporting, budget control, and risk management throughout all project stages.
  • Identify and assess critical project issues and risks, and present fully integrated mitigation responses for review.

About You:

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing construction projects ideally within the public sector or local government context.
  • Tertiary Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or related field.
  • Certification in Prince 2, or other project management discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, budget control, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • General Construction Induction Card and a valid Australian drivers licence.
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, regulations, design guidelines, and best practices pertaining to the building, security, and administration of government funded projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across various departments and with external parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage budgets and adapt to changing project demands in a fast-paced environment.

  • Total remuneration package of between $131,000.00 - $161,000.00 (inclusive of base salary, bonus incentive and superannuation).
