ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

We are looking for a safety conscious, dedicated and appropriately experienced and qualified individual to join Council's water and wastewater treatment plants team. Reporting to the Supervisor Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, this position is responsible for operating and maintaining Council’s water, wastewater and recycled water treatment plant facilities. A key objective of the role will be to train and mentor trainees and to work constructively with the team to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.

Council may consider offering this position as a traineeship should candidates not hold the appropriate level qualification. Under this arrangement, the successful applicant will complete a two year traineeship undertaking a course in Water Industry Treatment (in both water and wastewater) and, subject to demonstrated competence, will progress into a Treatment Plant Operator role upon completion of studies.  On the job mentoring and support will be provided by Council’s Treatment Plant Operators and Council will cover the cost of course requirements. 

To be successful you will bring

  • Certificate III in Water Industry Treatment or equivalent OR, if wishing to be considered for traineeship level, willingness to complete qualification under a traineeship arrangement.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment operations including adherence to regulatory, health, environmental and safety requirement OR, if wishing to be considered for traineeship level, capacity, commitment and willingness to develop such knowledge under a traineeship arrangement.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision and training of staff OR, if wishing to be considered for traineeship level, willingness and ability to supervise and train other staff once appropriately qualified and skilled.

The rewards

  • For a qualified and experience operator, an annual salary range of $63,900 to $73,300 (plus 11.5% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications. For a trainee level, an annual commencement salary of $55,800 (plus 11.5% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and progression through the traineeship qualification. 
  • 9 day fortnight working arrangement. Council is currently trialling a range of flexible working options. Full time field staff will have the option to apply to work a compressed four day work week, subject to operational and team based requirements and approval.
