About the Role
Wollongong City Libraries (WCL) is a dynamic service of Wollongong City Council. Our team plays a core role in delivering on Council's commitment to creating a community that is informed, engaged, creative and connected. Join our team and support the creation of an Extraordinary Wollongong!
We provide a variety of services across our seven local library sites (Helensburgh, Thirroul, Corrimal, Wollongong, Warrawong, Dapto, Unanderra). This includes frontline customer service; programs that promote Community Connection, Learning and Inclusion; Local Studies services; and Collections and Cataloguing services. This opportunity will see you proactively lead a team of library staff to deliver these customer-centred library services.
You will work collaboratively across WCL; Library and Community Facilities Division and Council; as well as with local organisations and community partners. You will actively contribute to the development and achievement of Wollongong City Libraries' strategic goals and pursue service quality and innovation.
This is a Permanent Full-time position on a 7-day roster. Weekend and evening work are required. Salary from $92,780.60 to $110,392.99 per annum, plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This position is initially based at Corrimal Library, but you may be required to work across any of our seven libraries across the Wollongong Local Government Area, dependent on operational requirements. This is a hands-on role; applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role.
Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.
What You will be doing
Reporting to the Coordinator Library Operations North, you will manage day-to-day operations of the team.
You will ensure the delivery of high-quality services for library operations, including: the delivery of customer-centred services and programs; recruitment, supervision and rostering of staff and volunteers; the implementation of relevant policies and procedures; and the achievement of performance objectives for your team.
You will lead, mentor and manage a diverse and dynamic library operations team in line with Council values. You'll work collaboratively, building networks and relationships across teams, sites and the community, promoting diversity, inclusion and belonging for all library customers and implementing the Library Strategy Wollongong-City-Libraries-Strategy-2024-2028.pdf (nsw.gov.au)
Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and excellence in customer service, you will also work across library locations and perform other duties as required, including night and weekend rosters.
A current Working with Children Check is required in this role
About you
You enjoy mentoring and leading your team to deliver exceptional customer service. You love engaging with the community and have a strong customer focus. Your ability to multi-task allows you to adapt to a busy and ever-changing environment.
You bring skills and experience with a relevant degree or higher-level qualification, along with excellent interpersonal, customer service and verbal communication skills. You have digital literacy and/or experience in the digital environment. Your ability to lead, performance manage and efficiently manage time allows you to prioritise tasks in a busy customer service environment.
