The role
Do you have any eye for detail and accuracy. Do you have a passion for providing high-quality service within the finance field? We are seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to join our Finance Department at MidCoast Council. In this role, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that all Council employees are paid accurately and on time, in line with legislative requirements and Council’s procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing fortnightly payroll, ensuring all payments align with relevant agreements, contracts, and Council procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll data, including handling amendments with care and authorisation.
- Assist in the calculation of termination payments, back pays, variations to allowances, award increases and annual review increases
- Support Worker’s Compensation payments, collaborating with the Work Health and Safety team to meet legislative standards.
- Ensure data integrity, audit trails, and secure record-keeping across payroll operations.
- Assist with reporting on leave entitlements and payroll-related metrics, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Prepare, reconcile, and remit superannuation payments, maintaining employee superannuation records fortnightly.
- Complete required external documentation, such as Centrelink and Child Support Agency forms, and support end-of-year payroll finalization for ATO submission.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $69,000 p.a. plus superannuation.
Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
