The Elsa Dixon School Based Traineeship is a two-year program for year 11/12 students.

We have an opportunity for an Aboriginal student entering year 11 in 2025 to complete Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management AHC21020-01 which will form part of the students HSC.

The successful student will meet all the criteria set out in the Position Description for the role and importantly will have demonstrated ability to assist the members of the Bush Regeneration Team to carry out bush regeneration works in accordance with Bush Regeneration Action Plans or as directed by the supervisor.

This opportunity offers:

  • The traineeship is a Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management AHC21020-01, and is offered on a temporary basis, one (1) day per week (7am to 4pm) plus holiday work for a term of up to the last day of year 12 however; this term may be reduced if an application for recognition of prior learning is approved, or competency-based completion of the traineeship occurs earlier. The requirement is for the student to complete 760 hours on the job.
  • Please note: If you have previously completed a Certificate III qualification or higher you will not be eligible for this traineeship.
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment to Traineeship wage rates in the range of $384.30 - $503.30 per week (rates are based on 35hrs per week), dependent on age and level of schooling.

Location:

This position is based at Mullumbimby Depot; however, Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.

Pre-Employment Screening Process:

  • Reference Checks: Referees will preferably be your current or most recent supervisor and must be able to comment directly on your abilities in a work situation.   • Functional Health Assessment: If applicable, the functional health assessment evaluates your physical and functional capacity against the physical demands necessary to safely perform the job for which you have applied. Applicable roles are subject to drug and alcohol testing, please note these tests will potentially require the provision of a urine sample, and a positive test will preclude a candidate from employment with Council at that time. 
  • Background Screening: Background checks verify the information you have provided in your application, and where applicable, also check for relevant criminal history. Checks may also include, for example, a confirmation of your employment history, qualifications/tickets and working with children clearance.
