About Us

Bellingen Shire is a picturesque and diverse area located on the Mid North Coast of NSW halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and just south of Coffs Harbour.  It has a total area of 1,605 square kilometres with a coastline of approximately 10km.  The region is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including lush rainforests, pristine rivers, and the World Heritage-listed Dorrigo National Park.  The area is known for its diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and charming towns, cafes and artisan shops.

We are a progressive local government authority employing approximately 150 dedicated employees.

The Opportunity

Bellingen Shire Council has an exciting Capital Works program planned for the coming years. We’ll be investing over $20M in our Bridge Renewal Program, replacing more than 30 bridges, alongside a further $20M on roadworks. We’re also delivering special projects, including upgrading key infrastructure at Connell Park and replacing the iconic Urunga Boardwalk.

Reporting to the Works Supervisor / Gang Supervisor, this role involves a variety of labouring tasks and small to medium plant operation for the construction, repair, and maintenance of Council’s infrastructure.

We’re looking for candidates with experience in construction and maintenance, particularly in areas relevant to local government infrastructure. Familiarity with small plant and equipment, power tools, and hand tools is essential.

Experience in the following areas would be highly regarded: concrete work, formwork, chainsaws, civil construction, and operating medium plant such as Rollers, Backhoes, and Wheel Loaders.

The ideal candidate will also hold some of the following qualifications: a current MR truck licence, High-Risk Work Licence (Basic Rigging, Dogging, or Basic Scaffolding), and Working at Heights accreditation.

Annual salary of $60,312 to $69,656 (plus super).

Please note:  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.  For a continuing position, you must be an Australian New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
