About the role

Join our team and provide arts and cultural services that enhance our city's liveability for residents and visitors!

Working with diverse communities and stakeholders, this is an exciting opportunity for someone with proven experience working in the arts and cultural industries to contribute to the creative life of the City.

As an experienced and passionate Cultural Development Coordinator, you'll provide leadership and strategic direction to our Cultural Development Team. This essential role supports and grows our creative industry. Combine your exceptional communication, strategic project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills to deliver quality programs across the creative arts portfolio, including community cultural development, arts and public art projects.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position. Some weekend and evening work will be required based on the program. Salary from $105,571.26 up to $126,222.85 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check. Applicants are required to provide a Working With Children Check application/clearance reference number with their application.

What you will be doing

You will lead a team of Cultural Development, Public Art, Administrative and Project staff. Utilising your highly developed communication and leadership skills, you will enhance the performance of the Cultural Development Team and achieve positive outcomes for the local community. You will develop effective and productive working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the Community, all levels of Council management and special interest arts and culture groups and committees. With your high-level project and financial management skills, you will deliver projects on time and to budget.

In the areas of Creative Arts, Cultural Development and Public Art, identified in Creative-Wollongong-2024-2033.pdf (nsw.gov.au), and 'Animating Wollongong Public Art Strategy 2022 - 2032 - Animating-Wollongong-Public-Art-Strategy-2022-2032.pdf (nsw.gov.au), you will develop and deliver high-quality programs and provide strategic and operational advice including:

  • Developing a program of arts and cultural programs for and with the community, including talks, performance opportunities and partnership programs
  • Delivering the Public Art creative and maintenance program
  • Managing Small Cultural Grants
  • Managing the Lower Town Hall Creative Wollongong Artist Studio's
  • Delivering an annual Community Arts Festival
  • Developing and delivering written and visual material, including Council reports, presentations and strategies
  • Implementing Council policies and procedures
  • Undertaking WHS responsibilities

About you

As a creative thinker, you bring the ability to work from strategy to on the-ground delivery. You have a passion for the arts and cultural industries, along with skills in program development and strategic service delivery. With your leadership skills, you motivate your team to deliver positive outcomes for the community.

You bring a high-level of communication and relationship building skills that allow you to liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
