ABOUT THE ROLE
Position
We are currently seeking a passionate and suitably qualified individual to join Council's Strategic Planning section.
Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic Planning, Council’s Environmental Scientists are part of a motivated and professional team dedicated to delivering positive strategic and environmental planning outcomes for Council and the community.
The roles require a blend of technical expertise, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills to effectively support, advance and promote biodiversity outcomes across the shire. A key focus is to assess development applications and provide expert advice in relation to development proposals.
Council is seeking a range of candidates to fill either one or two positions and will consider both part time and full time working arrangements. Preferred working arrangements will be discussed with shortlisted candidates at interview stage. Join us in making a meaningful impact on our environment!
To be successful you will bring
- Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council’s values of: creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe.
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, biodiversity management, ecology or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of the Biodiversity Conservation Act and local planning instruments in relation to biodiversity.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to prepare and present reports and submissions.
- Proven ability to work independently and with a high level of collaboration across teams and with key stakeholders.
- Proven experience and competence in the use of the Microsoft 365 and with other corporate software.

- 19 day month working arrangement Council is currently trialling a range of flexible working options. Subject to operational requirements, full time office staff will have access to a nine day fortnight, with a thirty minute lunch break. For the duration of the trial arrangement, staff will also have the option to apply to work a compressed four day work week, subject to operational requirements and approval.
