Before it became the hub of NSW’s winter snow sports and summer water activities, Jindabyne was a quaint country town cradled by the meandering Snowy River.
Relocated in 1974 to facilitate the Snowy Scheme, it has since been transformed into a vibrant year-round destination.
New suburbs, industrial areas and accommodation options have sprung up to cater to the increasing number of residents and visitors – all contributing to Jindabyne’s evolution.
Henley Property principal Michael Henley says residents relish its natural beauty.
“Recent years have brought rapid growth, fuelled by those seeking a major lifestyle change and option to work remotely,” Henley says.
“It offers the perfect mix of country charm and city amenities, where avid skiers can enjoy what would typically take years’ worth of visits in just one season.”
Varia and Andrei Davidoff of Feldmark Pottery are among those who enrich the community’s fabric.
Andrei, an artist and teacher, crafts ceramics for some of Australia’s top restaurants, while Varia manages the many tasks that keep their studio thriving, from admin to baking sourdough for their popular Clay and Graze classes.
“Relocating our studio here wasn’t just a strategic move for its year-round tourism – it was a homecoming,” Varia says.
“Andrei has been on skis since he could stand upright, and for me, having seen the landscapes of Jindabyne as a child, I’ve always measured every other forest against this one – it set a painting-like standard.”
