Reports to: Supervisor Pools

Salary: Commencing rate of $28.35 per hour + 25% casual loading. Weekend penalty rates apply on Saturdays and Sundays.

We're seeking a reliable, energetic, and safety-conscious Pool Attendant to oversee and support the day-to-day operations of our public swimming pool. As a Pool Attendant, your primary responsibility is the active supervision of pool users to prevent accidents and respond effectively to emergencies. You will play a vital role in maintaining public safety by enforcing pool rules, educating patrons about safe swimming practices, and remaining vigilant for any risks within the pool area. You’ll also provide basic emergency care, initiate rescue efforts when needed, and communicate effectively with patrons and colleagues to ensure a friendly, respectful, and secure environment.

Your role will also include hands-on operational duties such as monitoring and maintaining water quality, operating filtration and chemical dosing systems, maintaining amenities and grounds, and ensuring hygiene standards are met across the facility. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety are essential, as is the ability to work independently and communicate professionally. The role also involves administrative tasks such as taking bookings, and managing payments and reporting.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a current Pool Lifeguard Certificate (or the ability to obtain one before starting), First Aid and Resuscitation certifications, a current Working with Children Check, and a Class C NSW Driver’s Licence. Previous lifeguard experience, a Certificate III in Aquatics and Recreation, or Chemical Handling certification would be highly regarded.

Training

To encourage applicants, Council will provide Lifeguard training at Council’s expense for successful candidates that do not possess current Lifeguard Certification. Training will be scheduled subject to availability for successful applicants wishing to take up this opportunity (dates to be confirmed).

Essential Requirements

• Commitment to Council’s Mission, Values and Code of Conduct
• Understanding of work health and safety (WHS) in the workplace and commitment to a positive contribution to WHS in the workplace and compliance with Council and legislative requirements
• Pool Lifeguard Certificate or ability to obtain same prior to commencement of duties
• Current Working with Children Check for paid employment
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Current Senior Resuscitation Certificate or equivalent
• Proven work ethic and ability to provide excellent customer service
• Proven ability to resolve conflict
• Physically fit for the tasks of the job
• Good oral and written communication skills and an approachable manner
• Ability to work alone or under limited supervision to an agreed standard
• Proven ability to remain calm in an emergency/life threatening situation
• Class C NSW Drivers Licence.

Desirable Requirements

• Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation or equivalent relevant qualification
• Minimum 1 year’s experience as a lifeguard in a public pool
• Chemical Handling certification or equivalent
