We are seeking an experienced and professional Community Development Officer with a passion for Arts, Culture and Events.
The CDO - Public Events & Arts is responsible for overseeing the public event application process for commercial and community run events within the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, in liaison with internal departments, and is the primary contact for the community and general public in relation to events hosted and delivered within the Shire.
In this role you will have the following accountabilities:
- Advise and guide public event organisers through the Public Event Application process to ensure timely submission of high-quality applications plus champion best practice through consultation with internal stakeholders.
- Provide support, advice and assistance to community groups and other stakeholders in the delivery of identified Public Art initiatives within the Shire.
- Actively build capacity within community organisations/external stakeholders to develop their skills to enable them to independently organise and deliver effective, efficient and successful community events.
- Lead the delivery of Public Art projects undertaken by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale including, but not limited to, the development of briefs, reports/presentations, quotation/tender processes and commissioning arrangement.
- Develop a sense of community connection and local identity through active networking with community groups, funding partners and other stakeholders as appropriate to the delivery of artistic initiatives.
Our preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate the following skillset:
- Sound knowledge of the event management industry and relevant project management frameworks - planning, assessing and evaluating community events, activities and programs.
- Well-developed understanding of public art commissioning and cultural policy/strategy plus experience in working with artists and developing/delivering community arts strategies, programs and projects.
- High level organisation and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and remain calm under pressure.
- Advanced interpersonal, public relations and customer service skills, with demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of community stakeholders, government agencies and the general public.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, in particular skills in establishing networks, advocacy, making public presentations, stakeholder engagement and the preparation of reports and briefing documentation.
